  Iraq’s Christian and Shabak communities share a long but tumultuous history in the Ninewa Plains. More recently, both communities suffered as they were harshly targeted by violent extremist groups and forced to flee their ancient homeland. As they started to return to and rebuild their areas of origin, social cohesion between both communities remains weak because of the past but also due to concerns over their future. Against all odds, key figures from both communities assert that they are determined to give peace a chance
